Promote and Model Digital Citizenship and Responsibility

"Teachers understand local and global societal issues and responsibilities is an evolving digital culture and exhibit legal and ethical behavior in their professional practices."
  • Advocate, model, and teach safe, legal, and ethical use of digital information and technology, including respect for copyright, intellectual property, and the appropriate documentation of sources
  • Address the diverse needs of all learners by using learner-centered strategies providing equitable access to appropriate digital tools and resources
  • Promote and model digital etiquette and responsible social interactions related to the use of technology and information
  • Develop and model cultural understanding and global awareness by engaging with colleagues and students of other cultures using digital age communication and collaboration tools
In the book Transforming Learning with New Technologies, chapter 5 emphasizes the importance of teaching students about plagiarism and copyright infringement.  It is important teachers model and teach students how to properly write citations and how to give credit to others, and by doing so students can avoid breaking any copyright laws in the future.

A very serious topic mentioned in chapter 5 is cyberbullying.  In today's world cyberbullying is a real threat happing for students and adults.  It is extremely important we demonstrate to our students the importance of our words and actions online and how it affects others.

 Chapter 5: Using Public Domain Materials
In 3rd Grade, students are taught about the different types of storms and the atmosphere per Tennessee State Standard #8.  In my class, I can use public domain materials to gather information to share with my class.

Below are two examples from Text, Sound, Pictures and Photographs, and Moving Images about storm systems in the atmosphere.
